Tickets are now on sale for the third annual Girls' Night Out, a charity event to benefit local cancer programs. Last year, the event raised $21,000 with the money divided between Cancer Services, Fisher-Titus Mammography Fund and Firelands Regional Medical Center Foundation Cancer Fund.

This year's event is scheduled for Oct. 24 at the Nia Center at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Ladies will be able to visit vendors and enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres before the program begins at 6:30. The evening will conclude around 10.

Entertainment will include humorist Karen S. Vadino talking about "All Stressed Out and No One to Choke." Vadino, a motivational speaker, humorist, trainer and consultant, is a nationally recognized speaker known for her unique and humorous approach to life. Vadino has been in the human services field for more than 20 years and has been a trainer and educator for more than 15 years.

Musical entertainers will include Darryl and Allie, who will make their third appearance on the GNO stage and the Thrill and Thrillettes, a Detroit-based group that delights their audiences with lots of MoTown music. This evening of pampering and fun also will include a silent auction and much more. In addition, one local woman who is a cancer survivor will be honored during the event. A special Girls' Night Out version of "Deal or No Deal" also has been added to the festivities with Jeff McCready of Huron hosting the game show.

Tickets are $30. Anyone purchasing a ticket before Oct. 1 will be entered in a special door prize drawing. All proceeds will benefit cancer services, a local group that serves Erie County and the Norwalk area, the FTMC Mammography Fund and Firelands Regional Medical Center Cancer Program Fund.

"Our goal this year is to raise $35,000 that will be distributed to all three of these worthwhile programs," said Douglas Studer, co-owner of Curves in Norwalk, Sandusky and Huron and co-founder of this event with his wife, Gretchen. "We will have some of the same features as last year, but attendees also can expect some new surprises during the evening."
