Strickland proposal will not fix Ohio’s economic problems

Gov. Ted Strickland’s push to cut property taxes for seniors misses the point. Ohio needs real and significant tax cuts. Ohio has continually lagged behind in the unemployment rate. Ohio’s unemployment rate was 5.2 percent in March, compared with the U.S. rate of 4.4 percent.
According to the Tax Foundation, Ohio has one of the highest tax burdens for its citizens. Is our high unemployment rate and high taxes a coincidence?
We need lower taxes and new ideas to attract businesses to Ohio. Strickland seems like a well-intentioned guy, but his proposal does nothing fix the real problem — Ohio’s continued economic troubles.
