The local Jethro Tull tribute band Passion Play is back in action this summer.
First, the group will play Willard's Festival in the Park from 9 to 11 p.m. June 30 and then will perform at Cabana Jack's in Sandusky at 9:30 p.m. July 7.
These two shows mark the first 2007 concerts for Passion Play.
Passion Play is strictly a tribute band covering the music of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.
The group's set usually runs about two hours. The band members each have more than 20 years experience.
For the Willard performance, the group will consist of Dick Sherman on vocals, flute and acoustic guitar, John Waite on drums, Mel Holida on bass, Bahader El-Sokkary on keyboards and lead guitarist Dave Baicon.
At the Sandusky show, Darin Eicchorn will play lead guitar in place of Baicon.
El-Sokkary said the group is looking forward to this summer's shows and would like to add more.
"We're all very excited," he said. "We can't wait to get together again and play live."
Passion Play has been together for six years.
Nothing beats playing live, El-Sokkary said.
"It's just the experience the stage atmosphere," he said. "It feels better for the musician to get on stage and make the audience as happy as we are."
The band loves playing Jethro Tull tunes.
"The material is very sophisticated," he said. "The time signatures are hard to play. Each song is a challenge to all of us."
The group practices each Monday.
"We get along," he said. "We're one big, happy family."
The band has played locally at the Norwalk Elks Club and Club Amer-Ital in Bellevue.
