New London resident Jeremy Holmberg, 27, was sentenced this morning to 13 years in prison for masterminding a violent home invasion in March.
Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler said the two victims "were held (captive) for a long time" after being duct-taped by three masked suspects and the male victim was beaten severely. Holmberg, who walked away from a "halfway program" before the crime, had told people he "wanted to do some big crimes ... before settling on this hair-brained scheme," Leffler said.
Victim April Spain said she thought Holmberg should have gotten a longer prison term.
Tami Taft, the mother of Spain's fiance, Brandon, said the state "didn't prove he (Holmberg) swung the hammer, but he stood by when it happened."
