Norwalk police take down squirrel

It's all in the line of duty.

That's what went down Wednesday when Norwalk Police Sgt. Tom Cook was called to a Townsend Avenue location after a squirrel tussled with a German Shepherd-mix dog.

Needless to say, the squirrel came up on the losing end of the fight and ultimately had to be dispatched by Cook, who was armed with the animal control rifle.

"Occasionally we deal with squirrels, woodchucks, cats, dogs and raccoons," Norwalk Police Chief Kevin Cashen said this morning.

Cashen said after the squirrel was shot, the body was bagged and thrown in a dumpster.

"I must say this squirrel didn't have much of a chance because Sgt. Cook he's a very good shot," Cashen added.

Cook said this morning there's not too much paperwork involved with the dispatching of a squirrel. "No, just an incident report."
