SHELBY — The state Highway Patrol and Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department responded to a rollover accident with injuries Friday morning on Ohio 61 south of Hazelbrush Road.

Mansfield resident Nicole Bastista, 34, swerved to miss a squirrel while heading south on 61 and went off the right and left side of the roads, Trooper Brian Kelley said in his report. She then hit a ditch, overturned and hit a utility pole.

"She was ejected from the van," Plymouth Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Redden said.

He considered Bastista "very, very lucky" because her leg was pinned and firefighters were able to get the vehicle off her. Redden said the driver suffered minor ankle injuries plus some scrapes.

Paramedics first took Bastista to MedCentral Shelby Hospital, but she was transferred later to MedCentral Health System in Mansfield.

She was charged with failure to control. Drugs and alcohol aren't being considered factors in the crash.
