Local youth recognized

The 2006-2007 Ohio Cattlemen's Association BEST (Beef Exhibitor Show Total) Program wrapped up on June 9 with its Annual Awards Banquet held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.

The following Huron County youngsters claimed high honors in their respective divisions:

Lauren Ott, of Norwalk, was the eighth Overall Beginner Showman for 2006-2007. Lauren is the daughter of Jude and Jeanette Ott.

Richard Bolden, of Wakeman, was recognized for attending all 13 shows. Richard is the son of Richard and Anita Bolden.

Several representatives of the program's corporate sponsor, Steve R. Rauch Excavation and Demolition of Dayton, were on hand to help with the presentation of more than $25,000 worth of awards in the form of U.S. Savings Bonds, luggage, coats and show materials.

The 2006-2007 BEST program featured 13 sanctioned shows and worked its way across the state, from as far west as Preble County to as far east as Tuscarawas County. More than 430 head of cattle and more than 300 youth were entered in the program.

BEST is a youth program of the Ohio Cattlemen's Association that recognizes Ohio's junior beef exhibitors through a series of shows. Juniors who participate in these sanctioned shows earn points for their placing at each show. The OCA BEST program promotes educating Ohio's juniors about the beef industry's issues and rewards the successful accomplishments and hard work of those junior beef producers.
