FITCHVILLE Marlene (Urich) Janeda, daughter of Barbara Urich of Fitchville, and her horse, Toblerone, have qualified for the Amateur Adult Jumper National Championships at both the Washington International Horse Show in Washington D.C. and the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, Pa. Both of these competitions only invite the top 30 riders/horses nationally to compete. Marlene and Toblerone have been showing in Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky to obtain points so that they could qualify for these year-end championships. The Washington competition will be held Wednesday and the Pennsylvania competition will be held Oct 27. Both will be televised on ESPN channels.
The format of the competition is to have two jumping rounds. Only riders who have no penalties in the first round are allowed to move to round two. Round two is a speed-jumping round and is the deciding round for the national championship.
Toblerone is an 11-year-old Belgium Warmblood Jumper who was imported three years ago.
