Come on along and listen to the melodies of Broadway and help raise money for Norwalk City Schools' Endowment Fund in the process.
The sixth annual Elegant Evening for the Arts will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center at Norwalk High School.
For the first part of the evening, you can munch on hors d'oeuvres, browse an art exhibit and ice sculptures, while being entertained by two Norwalk High School string trios. Then, at 8:30 p.m., Broadway performers John Boswell, Brian Lane Green and Lee Lessack will sing and play tunes from the Great White Way on the piano. The lineup will include medleys from "West Side Story," composer Richard Rodgers and the songwriting team of Mercer/Mancini.
Ticket prices are $30, $50 and $75 and are available at the door, or by calling (419) 660-6511.
Last year's event raised almost $35,000, the second highest total in five years, said Gretchen Gerken, the event's chairwoman. The most raised was $47,000 in the event's first year. The total raised for the five years is more than $165,000.
One of the purposes of The Norwalk City Schools Endowment Fund is to raise money to award scholarships to Norwalk High School seniors. It is also intended to give grants for teachers in the school system for classroom projects not covered under the school district's budget.
