Weidemaier makes announcement on

peace observance

Acting Mayor P.E. Weidemaier has made an announcement on the subject of a proposed observance of peace, as soon as a formal statement comes for the four powers of the acceptance of the Japanese terms.

“I think it would be advisable to close at least all amusement places and that the churches be opened to give thanks and for silent prayer for the victory of freedom that has been won. This would be more sacred than a noisy celebration,” said Mr. Weidemaier.

“Inasmuch as many Norwalk boys, who have given their all will not return, it seems only fitting that I, as acting mayor of the city, advocate a dignified observance.”
