City War Chest elects directors for 5 year terms

The annual meeting of the Norwalk War Chest, Inc. was held in the Commissioners Room at the Court House April 13, at 4 p.m.

President Earle H. Lowe presided. Following a report by the treasurer, Mrs. M. Leone Brown, the nominating committee submitted ten names from which the following five were elected to serve as directors for five years: B. Harry Parke, W.D. Barnhart, John A. Fischer, W.M. Ernst and Frank Carpenter.

Ten other directors carry over for the coming year.

Captains and workers of War Bond drive dine

A meeting was held of the team captains and volunteer workers of Norwalk for the 2nd War Loan Drive this noon.

The meeting was conducted by Dana Call, Norwalk City Chairman, W.R. Barnhard, County Chairman, and Frederick M. Asbeck, area representative from Cleveland who was a representative of the United States Treasury Dept. is assisting the War Bond Drive in Huron and Crawford counties.

Following is a list of the names of the team captains and volunteer workers that attended the meeting at the Stone Grill banquet room: Danna Call, Fred Asbeck, Oscar Hettle, Harold Bowen, Herbert Freeman, James E. Cole, George Bilton, Harry Pruner, Ray Gandolf, Rex Bracy, Milton Justice, Floyd Rice, Leo Maloney, W.D. Bernhart, John Ernsthausen, Tom Taber, Joe F. Myers, Judge Van Horn, Judge Hiltz, Carl Fries, Art Henry, Bob Boyd, Alfred Wheelan, Charles Woodward, Carl Foos, James Smith, Herb Pressing, Al Reamer and C.J. Ruffing.

Will open recreation center in room at former Lobenthal Restaurant

Norwalk young people are going to have a place where they can congregate, play games and have fun.

The second meeting of citizens, teachers and students interested in this project has been held. Reports from the student bodies of Norwalk High School and St. Paul's High School emphasize the enthusiasm that Norwalk's young people have for the proposed recreation center.

Arrangement have been made to occupy the room formerly used by the former Lobenthal Restaurant.

The project has been developed from suggestions made by Mrs. Bertha A. Hess who recently spent time in Norwalk emphasizing the great need for such a meeting place for our youth. The organization includes Paul C. Tucker, chairman, and R.E. Wildman, Secretary-Treasurer. Tom Gabele will obtain necessary equipment; H.S. Bowen will head the finance committee; and Paul C. Tucker will organize the adult supervision.

Miss Madge C. Mossman has charge of the student organization which will eventually control and operate the recreation center.

Announce cast of Cub Scout minstrel show

The Cub Scout minstrel show to be presented at the high school auditorium Friday night is creating much interest.

Following are the boys who will take part: Robert Robertson, James Turrittin, James Smith, David Lang, Earl Gibson, Glenn Cadwell, Burr Furlong, James Blackburn, Martin Stower, Dale Reddick, Glenn Farrant, Charles Peckham, Robert Burrm Vernon Bell, Robert Mack, Billy Sheppard, Teddy Munson, Buddy Kelley, David Peckham, Richard Barton and William Gilbert.

Chorus: John Almendinger, Clarence Link, Danny Ballard, William Rule, John Peckham, Billy Baldruff, Harry Thompson, Pat Hiltz, Jack Wetzel, Richard Wilter, Richard Becker, Richard Walter, Eugene Benner, John Landoll, George Gleason, Harley Davis, Gordon Dale, Jack Spangler and Robert Miller.
