OUR VIEW - Roasts & Toasts

Toast Robert Milton Crauch, who will turn 100 next Monday. Robert is the epitome of clean living he never smoked, drank alcohol or caffeine and was a vegetarian most of his life. May Robert be an inspiration to all of us the next time we start to give in and reach for that cigarette or beer. Happy birthday.

Roast the government shutting down on Tuesday in honor of President Ford. Part of what made Ford a good president was that he rolled up his sleeves and worked hard as everyone who has offered an obituary or reminiscence of Ford's life reminded us last month. So, what could honor that attitude more than giving the country's postal workers and librarians the day off for a funeral they were not going to travel halfway across the country to attend? How about if everyone in the government had gone about their business in a quiet, dignified way that would have been a much more fitting tribute.

Toast the Reflector's new Web site. With a crisp, cleaner look and the addition of the Today's Reflector feature (the PDF version of the paper, just as you see it in newsstands), the Web site has been an instant success (at least to us) validating all the hard, diligent work those involved had to pour into it.

Roast technical difficulties that have prevented some people from being able to enjoy the new Web site. Expansive technology allows for endless things ... that can go wrong. It is an unfortunate part of the package, but once these technical challenges are out of the way, we're sure you'll love the new site as much as we do.
