A Norwalk man is in serious condition in an Akron hospital after being hit by a vehicle Thursday night on Whittlesey Avenue.
Martin Garcia, 35, is in the intensive care unit of Akron City Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The Norwalk Police Department said the patient had been listed in critical condition after a medical helicopter flew him to Akron with "serious head trauma."
Norwalk driver Judith Parrott, 62, is accused of hitting Garcia with her Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight at 7:42 p.m. as the pedestrian was crossing the street at 151 Whittlesey Ave., police said. No further details were available at press time because the investigation was not complete.
Sgt. Mike Conney said the department's accident reconstruction experts, Sgt. Dave Lichoff and Officer Ty Keefer, were at the accident site until 10:29 p.m.
"I know in those circumstances, they usually set up barricades and close down the entire scene," Conney explained.
Norwalk Fire Capt. William Knadler, in his report, said he and another firefighter assisted North Central EMS with patient care of Garcia and set up lights to assist police with their investigation. The firefighters returned to the station at 10:05.
