Norwalk’s Cring advances to districts

FINDLAY — Norwalk girls golfer Bethany Cring qualified for next week’s Division I district championships by grabbing one of the individual spots at Wednesday’s sectional tournament held at Sycamore Springs golf course.

Cring finished with a 93, which was one stroke ahead of teammate Anna Little (94) and two ahead of Hannah Dumbeck (95) to grab the last of three individual qualifying spots.

Norwalk, which finished fifth as a team (top three advance), finished with a 390 score. Bella Blaney shot a 108, while Noelle Jackson added a 125 as the final scorers for Norwalk.

Cring will golf at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green next Tuesday.


St. Paul 3, Findlay 0

The state-ranked Lady Flyers improved to 17-1 following Wednesday’s non-conference win over Div. I Findlay.

St. Paul won the match in three games, 25-15, 25-13, 25-14.

Meghan Hedrick finished with 14 kills and served 10 points with three aces for St. Paul — ranked No. 2 in the Div. IV coaches poll. Tess Lepley had 14 kills and five blocks, while Kennedy Stang had 15 points with five aces. 

Also for the Lady Flyers, Kamryn Maxwell had nine kills, Rachel Bleile finished with 38 assists, and Lauren Chandler had 11 digs and Claire Spettel added 10.

In the junior varsity match, St. Paul lost in two, 29-27, 25-22. Anna Lukasko had 10 kills and Libby Dvorak had 22 digs. Stevi Ward added nine points and six aces serving.

Crestview 3, W. Reserve 1

COLLINS — The Roughriders (14-5, 7-4 FC) dropped a four-game conference match to the visiting Cougars on Tuesday, 25-17, 27-25, 14-25, 25-20.

For Western Reserve, Emma Weber was 24-of-28 hitting with 13 kills and Morgan Boswell was 31-of-34 hitting with 15 kills and eight points serving. Alyssa Burch served 13 points and Morgan Spettle had six kills, while Morgan White led the team with 26 digs. In setting, Andrea Robson had 23 assists and Hannah Burke added 16.

Norwalk eighth-grade falls

The Norwalk eighth-grade volleyball team lost in three sets to visiting Willard on Wednesday, 25-15, 16-25 and 23-25.

Sophia Ott had 14 points, 22 assists and two kills for Norwalk, while Harlee Genovesi added eight points and seven kills. Other players that had strong games at the net were Makenna Dendinger with 13 hits, Alena Arndt, Lizzie Jones and Mikaylah Konik each with six hits and Sierra Zurcher with five hits.

Paris Snyder also had 100 percent serving and added four points. Norwalk is back in action Monday at Sandusky.
