TIFFIN — Davis Hedrick is peaking at the right time.

The St. Paul senior thrower, who has dominated the competition all spring, took things to a different level on Wednesday.

Competing in the discus throw at the Division III regional at Frost-Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin, Hedrick unleashed one of the top throws in the state to punch his ticket to Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus next weekend.

Entering with a seed of 168 feet, Hedrick’s fifth throw was good for a distance of 179-feet-5 inches. Not only was it 13 feet ahead of second place, but it was also a new school record, giving him the top mark in St. Paul history in both the discus and shot put.

Camille Endsley also earned a trip to state in the high jump for St. Paul. She finished second with an effort of 5-feet-1.

Also advancing to Columbus next week from the area on Wednesday included Monroeville’s Chayce Schaub in the long jump. He was also second at 21-feet-8.75. In the pole vault, New London’s Jacob Allen earned the fourth and final spot at 13-feet-8.

Both New London 4x800-meter relay teams advanced to Columbus as well. The girls team of Abigail Good, Dana Gustely, Kaylin Williams and Savannah Shaver placed second in 9:46.95. The boys team of Carson Coey, Mitchell Joppeck, Austin Reed and Curtis Joppeck was fourth in 8:11.20.

The running finals and remaining field events at the Tiffin regional will resume at 5 p.m. Friday.
