St. Paul boys finish district runners-up

PERKINS TWP. — The St. Paul boys finished as Division III district runners-up on Saturday, while the Flyer girls were third at the Perkins site.

St. Paul scored 72 points in the boys team race, which was a single point ahead of third-place New London (71) to finish behind champion Toledo Christian (97).

The Flyers had four first and second-place finishes on Saturday to earn the silver team trophy.

The boys 4x100 relay of Cam Caizzo, Paul Pearce, Treg Smith and Joey Catalano won in 44.79 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Kaden Rossman, Jared Arnold, Caizzo and Catalano also took first in 3:34.72.

Also claiming first on Saturday was Davis Hedrick in the shot put. His effort of 47-feet-8 won the event, after he took second in the discus on Thursday (145-feet-11). Meanwhile, Arnold took second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:00.96.

For New London, Curtis Joppeck won the 3200 in 10:23.01, which was the second top finish after Jacob Allen won the pole vault (13-feet-6) on Thursday.

Also for the Wildcats, Cayden Hofheins was third in both the shot put (45-feet-1) and discus throw (139-feet-9).

The only other area athlete on the boys side to advance to the Tiffin regional was Western Reserve’s Gavin Braden. He took second on Saturday in the shot put (46-feet-4) and fourth on Thursday in the discus (136-feet-9).

Lady Flyers advance four and three relays

Pacing the St. Paul girls on Saturday was three relay teams turning first or second-place times, which gives the program four relays at the Tiffin regional scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

The Lady Flyers scored 71 team points to finish behind champion Woodmore (94) and runners-up Fremont St. Joseph (76). New London (55) was fourth and Western Reserve was seventh (51).

On Saturday, the 4x100 team of Gabby Scavuzzo, Meghan Hedrick, Gwen Olcott and Olivia Powers crossed the line second in 51.39 seconds. The same four runners also placed second in the 4x200 in 1:47.79.

Meanwhile, the St. Paul 4x400 team of Holly Powers, Lily Dowdell, Scavuzzo and Olivia Powers placed first in 4:06.66, which just missed meet record by only .02 seconds.

Olivia Powers also won the 100 dash in 12.74 seconds, while Dowdell was second in the 1600 in 5:25.29. Also advancing in fourth place was Holly Powers in the 800 (2:29.68) and Camille Endsley in the high jump (4-feet-10) from Thursday.

The Lady Flyers also won the 4x800 relay race on Thursday.

For New London, Maryonna Cathey won the 300 hurdles in 46.19 seconds. Danny Gustely was third in the 800 (2:29.49), as was Emily Collins in the pole vault (8-feet-6) and Marisa Molnar in the shot put (34-feet-5.75).

Gabrielle Osterland also advanced for New London, placing fourth in the 3200 (12:37.59).

For Western, Victoria Ramage was second place in both the shot put (34-feet-11) and discus (114-feet-7). McKenna Woodruff was also second in the 400 (1:00.02), and Alyssa Good placed fourth in the shot put (32-feet-9).

Western also advanced a relay team to the Tiffin regional. The 4x200 of Aliyah Perez, Avery Tubbs, Morgan Spettle and Woodruff placed third in 1:49.92.

Monroeville boys fourth; girls finish seventh

BUCYRUS — The Monroeville boys team advanced three athletes in four events along with a relay team from the Div. III Bucyrus district.

The Eagles scored 56 points as a team, good for fourth in the standings.

On Saturday, the 4x100 team of Skyler Scheid, Dominic Ruffing, Chayce Schaub and Max Horner took second for the Eagles in 44.64 seconds.

After placing fourth in the long jump on Thursday, Schaub also advanced in the high jump on Saturday, also placing fourth (5-feet-8). Also for the Eagles, Sawyer Schafer was fourth on Saturday in the 300 hurdles (42.91), while Montgomery Walls won the shot put on Thursday (48-feet-5.5).

Other area boys advancing to the Tiffin regional this week included Plymouth’s Levi Robinson and South Central’s Cristiano Murphy. Robinson was third in the 3200 (10:26.89) and Murphy was fourth in the 100 (11.79).

For the Monroeville girls, Kristen Smith was second in the 400 in 1:00.10. The 4x200 team of Smith, Kennedy Brooks, Adrian Barman and Jordan Blackford was fourth (1:51.12), as was Amelia Dalton in the 100 hurdles (18.00).

The Eagle girls scored 43 points to finish seventh in the team race.

For South Central, Izzy Hauler was second in the long jump (16-feet-7) and Ellery McKee was fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.88). Plymouth’s Jessica Porter also advanced in the 1600, finishing in 5:38.82 to place fourth.

Area girls from the Bucyrus site advance to the regional held in Lancaster on Wednesday and Friday.
