BELLEVUE — “Making God Laugh” is a play about many things — tension, adventure, humor, dreams, unsolved issues — but first and foremost, it is about relationships and family.

Bellevue Society of the Arts is presenting the holiday comedy during the next two weekends, starting at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday; at 2 p.m. Sunday; at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7; and at 2 p.m. Dec. 8, in The Hirt Theater.

The play follows a traditional American family over a span of several decades, beginning each year at Thanksgiving and going through Easter.

Director Nancy Steyer explained why the public will enjoy the production.

“The story is so relatable,” Steyer said. “Really, anybody can relate to so many things in this play. It’s everyday humor, it gives us an outlet to laugh about our own situations.”

Steyer said the play is Inspired by the Woody Allen joke, "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans."

“This play is light-hearted and will not only make you laugh but will make you think,” Steyer said. “If you are looking for a great night of entertainment with a fun setting come out and see the show.”
