Fortuna leads Edison to win at Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON — The Edison softball team won for the sixth time in its last seven games with Monday’s 6-1 SBC Bay Division win at Port Clinton.

The Chargers improved to 12-4 overall with the win, and 4-3 in the SBC Bay.

Lindsey Fortuna had a solid pitching performance in the circle to pace Edison. She needed just 83 pitches to throw all seven innings, striking out five with no walks. Fortuna allowed one earned run on four hits.

Fortuna was just as strong at the plate for Edison, where she was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Also for Edison, Morgan Scott was 2 for 3 and scored three of her team’s six runs, while Hannah Vitaz doubled and had Edison’s other RBI.

Grace Houser, Deana Blatnik and Kira Appeman each added singles for Edison, which is back in action on Thursday vs. Willard. In the April 11 meeting, Edison scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh inning to beat the Crimson Flashes by a 6-5 score.

Crestview 18, S. Central 0

OLIVESBURG — The visiting Trojans were no match for the powerful Cougars on Monday, who continue to remain unbeaten atop the Firelands Conference with Monroeville.

Emma Keysor was 2 for 2 for South Central, which fell to 5-12 overall and 3-5 in the FC with the loss. Kailee Beaver also singled for the other hit for the Trojans.

The two teams are scheduled to play again today in Greenwich.

Bellevue 15, Columbian 1

TIFFIN — The Lady Red dominated the host Tornadoes with an eight-run sixth inning on Monday for an SBC Lake Division win.

Raquelle Seamon was 3 for 4 with two RBIs to pace Bellevue, while Jillian Sumser was 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Riley Mohr was also 2 for 5 with three RBIs for the Lady Red (10-3, 3-2), and Lara Spurlock doubled and drove in two runs.

Hannah Hill pitched five innings for the win. She allowed one unearned run on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Monroeville ranked in Div. IV

Monroeville was listed in the second state softball coaches poll, released Sunday night.

In Division IV, the Eagles (12-1, 7-0) are No. 10 in the poll. Monroeville’s lone loss of the season entering today’s game vs. Plymouth came in a 6-3 loss to New Riegel, which is ranked No. 6 in the Div. IV poll as well.

New Riegel trailed 3-0 before scoring six unearned runs in the seventh inning to win at Monroeville on April 11.
