Beverly J. Penfield

NORWALK — Beverly J. Penfield, 74, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, in Fisher Titus Medical Center.

She was born July 3, 1945, to Walton and Blanche (Horning) Jarvis in Norwalk. She was a lifelong area resident graduating from Norwalk High School in 1963.

Bev worked at Larry’s Printing in Norwalk, she also worked as a clerk for the Norwalk City Schools, Board of Education and later as a secretary for the Assistant Principle of Norwalk High School. She was co-owner of Lee’s Grill in Monroeville from 1985 to 1987 and most recently employed by Sipe and Chapman Attorneys at Law.

She was a passionate activist for women’s rights and held memberships to the National Organization for Women, Oberlin Chapter, as well as NARAL Pro Choice America for many years. She also worked the polls in Huron County for 39 years and was a member of the Huron County Democratic Party.

Bev enjoyed gardening and took pride in her roses. She enjoyed going to flea markets, festivals, and had participating in National Women’s Rights events. She attended many cooking shows, and was wonderfully talented at baking and cooking. She had an appreciation for collecting antiques and was a member of the Northwest Ohio Bottle Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Tisa A. Penfield of Tiffin; former husband and friend, Corky Penfield of Norwalk; brother, Timothy (Annette) Jarvis of Toledo; nieces and nephews, Christina, Cynthia, Bradley, and John; dear friends, Jackie Harris, Ramona Keefer and Linda Rothacker.

In addition to her parents, Bev was preceded in death by her special friend, Gilbert Burris Jr. in 2019; and best friend, Barbara Marrett in 2017.

Friends may call from noon Saturday, Jan. 11, until services at 2 p.m., at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St. Norwalk. The Rev. Margaret D’Anieri will officiate. Interment will be held privately at Woodlawn Cemetery.
