James D. Voik

NORWALK — James D. Voik, 60, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 4, 1959, to parents, Marie T. (Gibbons) McKernan and William Voik, in Cleveland, and moved to the Norwalk area in 2000.

James attended Normandy High School in Parma, and proudly served his country in the Navy from 1978 to 1982. He was a self-employed truck driver for JCJ Transportation, which he started in 2000. He was a member of the VFW Post 2743, Norwalk, and the Norwalk American Legion, Ken Burr Bell, Post 41. James enjoyed fast cars, including his 1967 Barracuda, named the “Red Light Bandit,” riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, gathering with friends, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Christine M. “Gurty” Voik; son, Josh J. (Sonia) Voik of Wakeman; grandson, Conway J. Voik; mother-in-law, Judy A. Houpt of Norwalk; father-in-law, Jay E Houpt of Somerset, Pa.; brothers-in-law, Mark E. (Michelle) Houpt and Robert J. “Boz” Houpt, both of Cleveland; stepfather, Thomas McKernan of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of James’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, with services at 2 p.m., at his son’s home, 4854 Ohio 60, Wakeman. The Rev. Ronald Schock will officiate, and military honors will follow.
