Rev. Donald E. Whitehurst

NORWALK — Rev. Donald E. Whitehurst, 91, of Norwalk, Ohio, met his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 6, 2018 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born November 18, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Bernard and Grace (Horn) Whitehurst. Donald came to this area in 2014 from Port Richey, Florida, where they had retired. He attended the Calvary Baptist Church, Norwalk, Ohio. For 30 years he served as a Pastor in numerous churches on the east coast, and also Brooklyn, New York, retiring in 1984. Donald was a draftsman in Floral Park, New York prior to entering the ministry, and continued his draftsman’s career after retiring, at Reflectone Inc. of Tampa, Florida. He was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing and boating, spending time with his family and visiting the residents of the Port Richey, Florida nursing homes, sharing God’s word. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Division serving during W.W. II, in New London, Connecticut.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy A. (Verity) Whitehurst of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Paul (Shari) Whitehurst of Ocala, Florida, Carol (Brad) Mason of Huron, Ohio and Richard Whitehurst of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Donald is also survived by his grandchildren, Kimberly (Brian) Young, Kristina (Kyle) Perna and Nicoole Whitehurst.

He was proceeded in death by his son, John Whitehurst in 1996, by his sister, Grace Wagnell and by his grandsons, Michael Bradley Mason and James Whitehurst, his sister-in-law Eleanor Hobson and sister-in-law Constance Verity.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 am in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. James McClain will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Moody Bible Institute, 820 North LaSalle Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60610. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.
