 Sean R. Sarrica, 39, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, September 3, 2011, at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, following a lengthy battle with a rare lung disease.

Sean was born in Sandusky, Ohio on December 26, 1971 and attended Sandusky City Schools and St. Mary's Catholic School. He was most recently employed as a heavy equipment mechanic at Camp Perry, and he had also worked for Home Depot, and Sandusky International.

Upon the September 11, 2011 attack on the World Trade Center, Sean was overcome with his pride as an American and he enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard, 1483rd Transportation Company. He served two tours of duty in Iraq, first temporarily assigned as a convoy gunner in the Alpha Company 237th BSB Squadron, and his second tour as a heavy equipment mechanic for the 1483rd Transportation Company. Sean was a member of the American Legion Post 83, was a boy scout for many years, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and being outdoors. He also loved his dog "Ginger," whom he adopted from the Humane Society.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Suter) Sarrica; daughter, Samantha Sarrica; parents, Donald and Patricia Sarrica; sister, Gloria Sarrica; and grandmother, Gloria Sarrica, all of sandusky; aunts, Caroline Pierce, of Overland Park, KS, and Diane (Dan) Fultz, of Berlin Heights, OH; uncles, Michael Sarrica, and Mark Lapata, of Sandusky, OH, and numerous relatives and friends.

Sean was preceded in death by his Aunt, Norma Jean Lapata, and his uncle, T.W. "Bill" Pierce.

Friends will be received on Thursday, September 8, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with Fr. Jason Kahle officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250 or to a charity of donor's choice.
