Thanks to a special collaboration with the Norwalk Parks and Recreation Department, StoryWalk allows families to enjoy a new picture book each season while strolling along the Sofios Park boardwalk. Sofios Park is located at 38 N. Old State Road.
Staff members said they believe children will love this season’s story: “I Want My Hat Back” by Jon Klassen. Activities along the path will get the whole family involved in this cute tale; Will the bear get his hat back? Who will he meet along the way?
Rain or shine, the library is inviting readers of all ages to join them at 11 a.m. May 4 for a grand opening celebration.
This kick-off event will feature a live reading, refreshments, face painting and the opportunity to win two tickets to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. Wear your fanciest, craziest hats – maybe that will help the bear find his own. Those who are unable to attend the grand opening will be able to visit the StoryWalk at any time to enjoy this season’s story.
Stacey Church, assistant library director, said she hopes this experience encourages children to get active in exploring their local parks and all the library has to offer.
Children planning on participating in the summer reading program can earn bonus points by visiting the StoryWalk.
A great success for libraries across the nation, the StoryWalk project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt. and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
