The state Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post is investigating a serious single-vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor-trailer commercial vehicle that occurred at 2:45 p.m. Sunday on Ohio 4 just south of Seel Road in Huron County's Lyme Township.

Garrick R. Lewis, 25, of Brewton, Ala., was driving a 2005 International semi-tractor-trailer hauling a load of wooden utility poles north on Ohio 4.

The truck went off the right side of the road, overturned and caught fire, troopers said. While overturning, the driver was ejected.

The commercial vehicle was destroyed by the fire and was towed from the scene by Wilcox Towing.

The full extent of Lewis’ injuries was not apparent at the scene, troopers said. He was transported to THe Bellevue Hospital by Bellevue Fire/EMS, and flown from there by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Ohio 4 was closed for six hours following the crash. Clean-up continued into the night.
