The woman, of Harbor Boulevard, was found unresponsive in her home. Sandusky Fire took her to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman had been the victim of an alleged assault earlier, allegedly committed by Joshua Gibson, 20, and Cassitee James, 21, both also of Harbor Boulevard.
Gibson was charged with felonious assault, and James was charged with misdemeanor assault. Doctors told police the woman suffered a fractured nose in the attack, and she was released after being treated at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Sandusky police Lt. Scott Dahlgren said his department is attempting to determine if her death is related to the attack, but he said they’re investigating “other factors” that might have contributed to her death.
“We need to confirm (the cause) through the autopsy,” Dahlgren said.
He said there are no new charges being considered for the assault suspects at this time.
