FITCHVILLE TOWNSHIP — Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard has revealed that a man committed suicide Friday night after firing at two deputies.

The deceased’s name isn’t being released until his family members have been notified.

The incident happened just before 10 p.m. Friday on Prospect Road just west of Exchange Road in Fitchville Township.

“It was just outside (of) New London,” Howard told the Reflector.

Two deputies responded to the report of a man who was possibly suicidal and having mental health issues. Howard said the officers were fired upon soon after they arrived.

“The individual fired numerous rounds and then took his life,” the sheriff added.

Also at the scene were Firelands Ambulance Service and the New London Volunteer Fire Department.

Other details were not available at press time. Look for the full story in Monday’s Reflector.
