Willard, WR students earn scholarships

Two local students earned scholarships through Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives’ Children of Members Scholarship competition.

Benjamin Schafer of Willard was awarded a $1,850 scholarship, and Emma Blankenship of Sullivan was awarded a $1,250 scholarship.

Schafer, the son of Donald and Annette Schafer, was sponsored by Firelands Electric Cooperative, Inc. He is a senior at Monroeville High School.

Blankenship, the daughter of Christopher and Julie Blankenship, was sponsored by Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. She is a senior at Western Reserve High School.

Forty-seven students representing 24 electric cooperatives in Ohio competed for more than $36,000 in scholarship awards. 

The state’s electric cooperatives, all Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives, serve more than 380,000 homes and businesses in 77 of Ohio’s 88 counties.
