Edison’s Lesniak competes nationally at Foot Locker championships

KENOSHA, Wisc. — Edison senior standout runner Abby Lesniak competed on Saturday in the 41st annual Foot Locker Midwest Region championships, held at the Wayne E. Dannehl course at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The school is located in Kenosha, Wisc. on Lake Michigan, just north of the Illinois border.

In the race, Lesniak was 82nd out of 268 runners with a time of 20:15.6. Abby Vanderkooi from Fremont Michigan won the race in 17:17.8.

The national event for the Midwest regional included runners from Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and U.S. citizens in overseas military installations.

At Edison, Lesniak was a three-time All-Ohio finisher at the Division II state championships. Over the last three seasons, she placed 27th (2017), 23rd (2018) and 29th (2019) at the state meet held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
