OVI, drug defendants plead guilty

A Norwalk driver convicted of operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and several drug dealers and defendants have been convicted through Huron County Common Pleas Court.

Michael L. Griggs, 48, most recently of 863 Peru Olena Road, Lot 12, pleaded pleaded guilty Tuesday to OVI. His conviction comes with the forfeiture of a 2001 GMC truck to the state. Griggs will be sentenced July 25.

His indictment indicates he was convicted of OVIs on three occasions: May 21, 2010; Feb. 4, 2014 and July 26, 2016, all through Norwalk Municipal Court.

In other hearings:

• Craig A. Grills, 44, most recently of 14563 Green Road, Wakeman, pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of a fentanyl-related compound. He will be sentenced July 31.

• Leann H. Howell, 29, most recently of 316 1/2 Maple St., Willard, pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of heroin. Willard Police Officer Brandon Malson handled the Oct. 29 incident. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed one count each of obstructing official business, possessing drug abuse instruments and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors. Howell will be sentenced July 25.

• Randall T. Oney, 32, of Marion, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of trafficking in heroin. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed two counts of trafficking in a counterfeit controlled substance and one charge each of aggravated trafficking in drugs and trafficking in heroin. Oney will be sentenced July 31. 

• James R. Taylor, 26, of Port Clinton, pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated trafficking in drugs in exchange for the dismissal of a similar felony and possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor. He will be sentenced July 31.
