Norwalk falls at Ashland

ASHLAND — The Norwalk boys basketball team never got untracked on Saturday in a 66-56 non-league loss to host Ashland.

The Arrows (2-7) jumped out to a 22-16 lead after one quarter, and were able to keep that advantage throughout much of the second and third quarters. Ashland led 32-27 at halftime and 48-43 through three quarters.

Ashland then put the game away with an 18-13 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Garrett Obringer led the Truckers (6-4) with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Garrett Chapn had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Ian Minor added 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Also for Norwalk, Will Gehlhausen had 10 points and four assists, while Ryan Sowders finished with seven points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Truckers shot 24-of-49 (48 percent) from the field, but were just 5-of-18 (27 percent) from behind the three-point line and took five free throws, making three.

Norwalk held a 30-18 edge in rebounds and 20-16 in assists. However, the Arrows finished with an 11-4 advantage in steals as the Truckers committed 17 turnovers to Ashland’s seven — resulting in 20 points off the turnovers.

In the junior varsity game, Norwalk picked up a 36-27 victory. Eli Obringer led the JV Truckers (7-3) with 13 points, while Nate Laroche added seven points, seven rebounds and five steals. Drew Shope also had six points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists.

Norwalk will host Clyde (4-3, 3-0) on Tuesday in a rescheduled SBC Lake Division matchup.


Willard 85, Columbian 64

TIFFIN — The state-ranked Crimson Flashes bounced back from their first loss of the season with a blowout win over the host Tornadoes in non-league action Saturday night.

Willard (10-1) — ranked No. 5 in last week’s first Division III Associated Press poll — fell in overtime on a last-second shot at Margaretta, 63-61, on Friday.

In Saturday’s win, the Flashes got 33 points from standout Cooper Parrott, while Terry Baldridge had 20 points. Myles Pinkston was a third player in double figures with 13 points for Willard, which hosts Port Clinton on Friday in an SBC Bay Division matchup.

Edison 51, Vermilion 45

VERMILION — The visiting Chargers steadily outscored the host Sailors across the four quarters of Saturday’s non-league win.

Edison improved to 4-6 overall behind 18 points and six rebounds from Dylan O’Dell. Drew Sneider added 14 points, while Patrick Amburgy had six points and five assists and Patrick McManus had four points and eight rebounds.

Edison will entertain Oak Harbor on Friday.

Plymouth 51, Mans. St. Peter’s 36

PLYMOUTH — The Big Red bounced back from Friday’s home loss to St. Paul with a big second half in a non-league win over the Spartans Saturday night.

For Plymouth (6-6), Zeth Goth finished with 22 points. Brody Brown had eight points, with Josh Beebe adding seven and Walker Elliott scored six points and had six assists.

The Big Red host Crestview on Thursday in a Firelands Conference matchup.
