COLUMBUS — For the first time in five seasons, the Norwalk boys basketball team earned a ranking in the Associated Press state poll, which was released on Monday.

The Truckers (16-2) earned 33 points and appeared at No. 11 in Division II the sixth of eight weekly polls.

Norwalk has won 14 consecutive games and is in first place in the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division, and was voted the No. 1 seed at Sunday’s Division II Mansfield Madison district tournament draw.

The ranking comes ahead of a rugged schedule this week for the Truckers, starting Tuesday when they host Div. III Oregon Cardinal Stritch (15-3). The Cardinals are 59-10 over the past three seasons, and have two 1,000-point scorers who are also NCAA Div. I college recruits.

On Friday, Norwalk (7-1 SBC) travels to Sandusky (10-6, 6-1) in a game that is for sole possession of first place in the Lake Division in the loss column. The Truckers host Shelby (9-10) on Saturday in the last home game of the season.

Norwalk last appeared in the AP state poll in the 2013-14 season when it finished No. 2 in Div. II behind then-Northern Ohio League foe Ontario. During the regular season, Ontario snapped Norwalk’s 57-game regular season winning streak, 63-61, which stands as the ninth-longest in Ohio boys basketball history.

The Truckers then blasted the Warriors in the regular season finale, 69-47, after the final poll came out, resulting in co-league champions. Norwalk then won eight tournament games to win the Div. II state championship.

In addition to 2013-14, Norwalk ended seasons ranked in the AP poll in 2011-12 (11th, Div. I) and 2012-13 (2nd, Div. I).

Below is the complete Div. II poll for this week:
