PLYMOUTH Carrie (Bolen) Handshoe, 78, died Sunday evening at Willard Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
She was born April 8, 1928 in Knott County, Ky. to the late Bennie and Evelyn (Sparkman) Bolen and had lived in the Plymouth area since the early 1950s.
She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Willard. She loved to go to church, cook, sew and go to garage sales. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who always had a loving smile and laugh for all who saw her and had no rivals when it came to cooking.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lorrean and Rodney Backensto of Willard, Evelyn and Roger Robinson, Charlene and Jack Gasparac, Lynn and Gary Tackett, all of Plymouth; sons and daughters-in-law, Claude and Gaylene Handshoe, Robert and Bonnie Handshoe of Plymouth, Willie and Rochelle Handshoe of Willard and David and Lisa Handshoe of Republic; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Hubert Bolen of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vince Handshoe; a grandson, Barry Handshoe; and a granddaughter, Rachel Tackett.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Willard United Baptist Church. The Revs. Danny Hamilton and James Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
