SANDUSKY Leonard J. Winland, 91, of Sandusky, died Monday evening in Firelands Regional Medical Center's Main Campus in Sandusky.

He was born July 16, 1915 in Sandusky to the late Milton A. and Ida M. (Green) Winland and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a former member of the Oxford Grange, the Teamsters Union, and the Wee Campers group. He worked for the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1933. He was a former truck driver for Russell Transportation and retired from Bay Transportation of Port Clinton, Ohio in1976. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking and bird watching.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, L. Scott and Joan Winland of Sandusky; daughters and sons-in-law, Verla M. "Cricket" and Ralph Munger of Sandusky, and Lynne D. Disbrow of Sandusky; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Nettles and Helen Paxton, both of Zanesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel E. Winland in 2003; a son, Richard Winland; brothers, Harley, Milton Jr., Elmer and Arthur Winland; a sister, Amelia "Jane" Scanlan; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where the Rev. Carl Woodyard, pastor of the Mt. Harvest Church of God, will officiate. The committal service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at chapel of Meadowgreen Memorial Park, Bogart Road, Sandusky.
