SHELBY Carl F. DeWitt, 87, of Shelby, died Tuesday at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 21, 1919 in Newark, son of the late George R. and Louise C. (Faist) DeWitt.
He was a 1937 graduate of Newark Sr. High School and attended Business School. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. During his working career he had been employed at Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Roethlisberger Transfer Co. in Shelby and The Ohio Steel Tube Co. in Shelby. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He and his wife, Marilyn, enjoyed making ceramics and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn R. (Strouse) DeWitt, whom he married March 21, 1951; sons and daughters-in-law, Garry and Diane DeWitt of Columbus and Mark and Anne DeWitt of Norwalk; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Margaret Watson, Christine Arnold, Georgia McLauglin, and Barbara DeWitt.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Brad McBee will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors.
