BIRMINGHAM Verna Jean (Ewell) Herman, 80, of Birmingham, died Saturday afternoon at her daughters home.

She was born June 22, 1926 in Rochester and had lived in the Birmingham area since 1945.

She worked for the Firelands School District for 10 years. She was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church. She was a member of many different church groups and helped with various church functions over the years.

She was best known for her smile and laughter, she enjoyed camping, roller skating, western style square dancing and round dancing over the years. She enjoyed visiting her friends and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Terry Balzer of Birmingham and Lona and Ernest Marie Harmon of Sandusky; and a sister, Mary (Ewell) Osburn of Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton E. Herman; parents, Clark and Grace (Butson) Ewell; a brother, Ray Ewell; and a granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Balzer.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper St., Wakeman, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dennis Henkle will officiate. Burial will follow in Birmingham Cemetery.
