COLLINS – Jean Ross Oates, 82 of Collins, died early Saturday morning, May 24, 2008 in her home.
She was born March 16, 1926 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Nye and Ada (Bartow) Ross and was a lifelong Collins area resident.
She was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church and also attended the Berean Bible Church in Topinabee, Michigan where she spent many summers vacationing. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Althea Chapter, Monroeville, Ohio.
She was a former employee of the Apex Company in Sandusky, Ohio, the Townsend Phone Company, Collins Elevator, Berlin Heights Basket Factory, was a switchboard operator at Fisher Titus Medical Center and was a school bus driver for the Western Reserve Public Schools for 25 years retiring in 1988. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, reading was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Eric J. “Rick” and Chris Oats of Norwalk and by her daughter Kathleen J. Hunter of Collins, Ohio, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Oates in 1987 and by her daughters, Iva Lou Timbs in 1988 and Iva Lynn Isbell in 1999. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at 3:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. David Brown will officiate.
