Jane Seitz, age 77, died on May 21, 2008 in Columbus, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 29, 1931. Jane was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Hampton Heights High School in 1949. She settled in Sandusky, Ohio, after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1953 with degrees in English and education.
Jane married Frank Charles Seitz of Sandusky, on August 15, 1954, at Calvary Episcopal Church, Sandusky. Along with being a homemaker, Jane taught English and history for some 15 years for Sandusky City Schools.
The couple had two daughters, Christina Lynn Gilliland of Hudson, Ohio, and Jeannine Marie Gradeless of Dublin, Ohio. The couple raised their family in Huron, Ohio.
Following retirement, Jane was an active member of the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, the Milan Fortnightly Travel Club, the Milan Garden Club, the Milan Research Club, the Sandusky Retired Teachers Association and the Ohio League of Women Voters.
Among Jane’s many interests were: playing piano; sewing; collecting art, antiques and glassware; attending ballets, symphonies and operas; visiting history and art museums; traveling extensively throughout the United States and Western Europe. During the 1990’s, Jane and Frank restored a Victorian mansion in Milan, Ohio. Most recently the couple resided in Dublin, Ohio.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents Charles Peter and Ada Alberta (Kuss) Mapp of Chicago, Illinois.
Jane is survived by her husband Frank, daughters Christina (married to Jerry A. Gilliland) and Jeannine (married to Steven E. Gradeless) and three grandchildren: Bryan Andrew Gilliland of Phoenix, Arizona; Eric Matthew Gilliland of Hudson, Ohio; and Aimee Marie Gradeless of Dublin, Ohio.
She is also survived by her two brothers: Charles A. Mapp of Roswell, Georgia, and Thomas W. Mapp of Athens, Georgia.
Graveside Services will be conducted Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Funeral Chapel at Oakland Cemetery, 2917 Milan Road, Sandusky. The Rev. Jeffrey Stoll will officiate.
