NORWALK Richard Paul Germann, 89, of Norwalk, died Monday morning at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
He was born April 3, 1918 in Ithaca, N.Y. to the late Frank and Martha Germann. The Germann family lived in Providence, R.I., Texas, Maryland, Illinois and New Jersey before moving back Willard, Sandusky and finally Norwalk.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in chemistry. He did postgrad work at the University of Colorado and Brown University and received an honorary doctorate from the Cast Western Reserve, Cleveland.
He worked as a pharmaceutical chemist for American Cynamide, Geigy Co., W.R. Grace and other chemical companies. He was voted to Who's Who in American and was a longtime member of the American Chemical Society. He was also CEO of a consulting company, Ramtek International, Ltd. in Norwalk. He had established a number of patents for his respective employers.
He was a former member of the Huron County Services for the Aging Board, AARP, Christie Lane School and Industries Board, The American Philatelic Society, and president of the Norwalk Public Library Friends Group. He was a member of Norwalk's Salvation Army.
He is survived by a sister, Lois Jones of California; and a cousin and the cousin's children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Malinda Jane Plietz of Norwalk, whom he married Dec. 11, 1942; and their adopted daughter, Cherianne Lee.
Major Robert Deidrick will hold a memorial service at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Norwalk Salvation Army, 55 Whittlesey Ave., where memorial gifts may be sent.
Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, is in charge of the arrangements.
