SANDUSKY - Marion Anita (Scherer) Kaltenbach, 95, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on May 1, 2008 at Providence Care Center following a brief illness.
She was born on January 11, 1913 in Sandusky, Ohio. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, but attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Marion and her husband Martin owned and operated Kaltenbach's Drive In (aka Golly-Gee) before retiring to operate a fruit & vegetable market from their home. They worked side by side for many years and enjoyed fishing and traveling. Marion also enjoyed Sunday dinners out, attending AARP meetings with her sister Ruth, baking, and spending time with family and friends, treating many to her delicious baked goods, especially pies. She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda & Dale Hartley of Sandusky; a granddaughter, Melissa (Kriss) & Curt Keating and great granddaughters, Alexis and Curissa Keating; brothers, Norbert and William "Bill" & Marcella Scherer, both of Sandusky; and a sister, Cecilia & Charles Platte of California; her sister in law Alice Scherer of Sandusky, and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, J. Martin "Marty" Kaltenbach, in 1983; a daughter, Virginia R. Hemmer, in 1957; her parents, Emil and Anna (Pfah) Scherer; a brother, Charles Scherer; a sister, Ruth Wahl and two sisters in infancy.
Friends will be received on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayer services will be conducted on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with the Father J. Douglas Garand officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
