Bert Fannin

COLLINS -- Bert Lee Fannin, age 83, of Collins, passed away Thursday, June 05, 2014 at Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born September 19, 1930 in West Liberty, Kentucky to the late William and Cloa (Atkins) Fannin. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for 17 years, and a self-employed carpenter for Bert Fannin Builder from 1953 until retiring in 2007. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and played adult softball over 40 years. He founded the girls' softball team at Western Reserve School and was a boy-scout leader for many years. He volunteered over 30 years with the Townsend Fire Department with 27 years as the Assistant Chief. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Bronson Conservation Club and the Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy (Leimeister) Fannin of Collins; children, Carol (Pat) Dunn of Norwalk, Joanne (Bruce) Linn, Jean (Ron) Wolfe and Deb (Ken) Morrow, all of Collins, Betty Driver of LaGrange, Brenda (Steve) Cooper of Collins, Cindy (Dwight) Buchanon of Waxhaw, NC, Tom Fannin of New London, Pat (Judy) Fannin and Joe (Chrissie) Fannin, all of Wakeman, Steve (Tammy) Fannin of Columbus, IN and James Fannin of LaGrange; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Carl and Ernest Fannin; sisters, Olive Lucal, Edna Ujvari, Betty Meyer and Audrey Smith; children, Frederick in infancy and Patricia Fannin at nine years old.

Friends may call on Monday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk with Monsignor Kenneth Morman, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
