WILLARD — Michael Jon Shininger, 53, of Willard, died Friday in Willard Mercy Hospital.
He was born Nov. 12, 1954 to Roderick D. and Perma (Wenner) Shininger and had been a lifelong Willard resident. He was a 1973 graduate of Willard High School and a 1979 graduate of Kent State University.
He was the manager of the Main Street Carry-Out in Willard.
He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Commander of the Son's of the American Legion Post 514, a charter member of the American Legion Riders Club Post 514, an ASA Softball Umpire and a member of the City of Willard Zoning Board of Appeals.
He was a supporter of all the Willard High School sports and an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
He is survived by his parents, Roderick and Perma Shininger of Willard; a special friend, Patty Catron and her son, Charlie, of Willard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Viv Shininger of Dayton, and Matt and Paula Shininger of Willard, a sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and John DiSilvestro of Tarboro, N.C.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew; and aunts and uncles, many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Dorothy Wenner; and Fred and Olive Shininger and a cousin, Doug Snook.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Secor Funeral Home in Willard. A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley S. Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard.
