SANDUSKY — Elaine “Ellie” Cunningham, 76, of Norwalk, died Tuesday at Firelands Regional Medical Center’s Main Campus in Sandusky.
She was born Jan. 17, 1932 in Waukegan, Ill. and was a 1949 graduate of Waukegan Township High School. She volunteered many years at the Norwalk Memorial Home and served as a nurses aid for more than 20 years at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
She enjoyed scrap booking, rubber-stamping and traveling as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was involved with the Senior Enrichment Services Age Exchange program for six years. She was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter 15 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard D. Cunningham of Norwalk; sons, Richard Scott (Laurie) Cunningham of Indianapolis, Ind., Thomas Donald (Megan) Cunningham of Pittsburgh, Pa. and David Hale Cunningham of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; a sister, Susan (Robert) Madden of Bronxville, N.Y,; and her cousin, Carol Tasker of Waukegan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A. Cecil and Alma (Isatalo) Hale; and a brother, Jerry Hale.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where Queen Esther Chapter 15 Order of the Eastern Star service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Doug Winner, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
