Feb. 9, 1926 — March 8, 2008

NORWALK — Edward J. Fleming, 82, of Norwalk, died Saturday at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 9, 1926 in Tiffin, and moved to Attica, where he farmed family land.

After graduating in 1943 from Attica High School, he entered the Army and served his country in the South Pacific as a cryptographer for the 24th Infantry in the Phillipines and Japan.

He married Frances Pirrung on Sept. 27, 1946. He moved to Norwalk in 1955 with his wife, where they raised seven children. In 1981, he retired from Wikel Bulk Express in Huron. He enjoyed fly-in fishing trips to Canada and his 19 years traveling and camping in his trailer. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Norwalk and the WBCCI Airstream Club.

He is survived by his wife, Frances P. Fleming of Norwalk; daughters, Sue (Tom) Churchill of Norwalk, Pat (Bob) Galvin of Maumee, Sandy Fleming of Maumee, Martie Aiello of Clyde and Joanie (John) Moosman of Perrysburg; sons, Mike (Mary) Fleming of Norwalk and Steve (Wendie) Fleming of Wellington; and 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Anna Fleming; sisters, Kathryn (Best) Stein, Margaret Missler, Loretta Schneider and Bernice Schneider; brother, Vince Fleming; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Moosman.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk, with the Rev. Frank Kehres, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.
