Feb. 29, 1940 — Feb. 29, 2008
HURON — Barbara Ellen (Fry) Wilber died Friday.
She was born Nov. 25, 1921, daughter of the late Harry and Myrtle Plue Fry in Peru. Most of her schooling was in Berlin Heights but the family moved when she was in high school and she graduated from Margaretta in 1939.
On Feb. 29, 1940 she met the love of her life, Burdette Wilber, and they were married July 4, 1940 in the Berlin Heights Methodist Church. They went on to have four children.
Her life was spent caring for others. She raised four children after surviving Polio in 1944. When the need arouse she cared for young relatives and then her grandchildren.
She was a Sunday School teacher at Huron United Methodist Church for many years. She created hundreds of rugs on her large loom using strips of material cut and sewn by her church group every Thursday afternoon.
She enjoyed spending time with her family — years of camping, house boat trips and basketball games with Dave and the many years of Volleyball with two state championships for Janet and Sarah and two generations of top of the class Huron graduates.
She was a member of the Huron United Methodist Church and a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, an example of overcoming the crippling effects of polio.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dolores (Tom) Hartley of Huron, David (Judy) Wilber of Huron and Rebecca (Chris) Harlan of Norwalk; several grandchildren and a great-grandson; a sister, Virginia Duff of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her husband Burdette; a daughter, Janet S Wilber; a grandson Richard A Bruns; and a brother, Percy E Kahle.
