Mary Ellen Haeuptle, 89, of Milan, passed away early Monday morning, February 17, 2014 at Providence Care Center, Sandusky following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 29, 1924, in Vacaville, California, to the late Howard and Hildegard (Hartl) Nulk.
Mary Ellen was a resident of the Milan, Ohio community since 1952. She was employed by the Milan School System, and worked as a teacher's Aide for 15 years.
She was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary for the American Legion, the Precinct Committee Woman for Democratic Party, and St. Anthony's Church where she was an active member of the Altar & Rosary Society, choir, and the flower committee. She was an avid volunteer for Fisher-Titus Hospital, the Milan Historical Museum, and the American Red Cross, where she was a Gallon Club Blood Donor.
She is survived by her eight sons, John (Judy), Joseph (Carla), James (Shirley), Paul (Kathleen), Patrick, Andrew (Connie), Gregory (Beth), and Charles (Nicole) Haeuptle; four daughters, Margaret (Jack) Porter, Hildegard (Mark) Chanter, Rosemary Schlesinger, and Julie (Tom) Wireman; 27 grandchildren, Katy, Zack (Jessica), Corey, Jeremy, Elizabeth, John (Feny), Erik (Hazel), John (Krista), Jason (Kelli), Hillary (Jake), Christian, Elise (Christian), Kirk, Brett, Jeffery, Nicholas, Donnie, Griffin, Maya, Stephanie, Rachel, Claire, Chase, Seth, Sarai, Samuel, and Shepard; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Pat), and Robert (Carol Ann) Nulk.
Including her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert J. Haeuptle, and her brother, Vincent (Annette) Nulk.
Friends may call Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary service beginning at 7:30 PM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1 S. Main St., Milan, Ohio 44846. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 130 South Main St., Milan, Ohio 44846. Father Anthony Recker will be officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
