WILLARD — Burton L. Deppen, 86, of rural Willard, died Monday afternoon at his home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1921 in Tiffin to the late Alvin and Alta (Smith) Deppen.
He served during World War II in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
He was a farmer his entire life and had worked and retired from MidWest Industries in Willard. He enjoyed farming, mowing his lawn, his family and riding his gator.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine E. (Kilgore) Deppen whom he married on March 15, 1947; children and their spouses, Betty Jamison, Robert and Denise Deppen, Ruth and Jerry Draper, Joan and Mark Courtright, Debbie and Dennis Armitage, all of Willard; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Hassinger of Monroeville;
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl; a son-in-law, Larry Jamison; a granddaughter, Amy Renee Jamison; and six brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.. with the Rev. George Lewis officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Willard.
