COLLINS -- Doris Mae (Becker) Garwood, age 86, of Collins, ascended to heaven to meet The Lord on November 26, 2013, where she joined her beloved husband Frank "Ike" Garwood. Doris was born on July 16, 1927 in Milan, and married Ike on April 26, 1947. She was a loving, caring, and hardworking woman who never complained.
Doris was an active member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Womens Group where she always helped make mincemeat and apple butter. She worked a short time at Durable Mat before becoming a full time mother and dairy farmer's wife. Additionally, she was actively involved in Erie County Farm Bureau and was an Advisor for the Dusty Boots 4-H Club from 1966-1979.
Doris enjoyed reading, playing board games, and "Grandma's Rules" Rummy with her grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening and baking. Her grandchildren say she always had the best cookies. She also had a deep love for horses and a special way with animals.
Doris leaves behind her four children, Susan (Duane) Haas, of Norwalk, James Garwood, of Collins, Bonnie (Richard) Malone, of Berlin Heights, and Jerry (Pam) Garwood, of Collins, as well as 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ike, on February 24, 2002, her parents Philip and Teresa (Antrim) Becker, her sisters Leona Cane, and Ruth Summers, and a brother Howard.
Friends may call on Friday November 29, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South Street, Berlin Heights. On Saturday there will be visitation from 10:00 am unil the time of services at 11:00 am at the Lakeview United Methodist Church on 6 South Street in Berlin Heights. Pastor Dick Kretchmar will be officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
