OBERLIN Eleanor Mitro, 83, of Oberlin, died Sunday at Kendal at Oberlin.

She was born April 15, 1923 in Meadville, Pa., the only child of Park and Eva Decker.

She graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor of arts in music education in 1945. She earned a master's degree in music education from Bowling Green State University in 1968. She taught band and orchestra in the Wellington, Oberlin, Clearview and Norwalk school systems, retiring in 1990 after 33 years. She also played with George Byrd's Musical Majorettes, affiliated with the Cleveland Browns.

Her interests included music, camping, wood carving, golf and her grandchildren. She lived her life with enthusiasm and will be missed by her family, friends, and her many students.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Joanna of Cincinnati and Tom and Dee Dee of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Mitro, whom she married Feb. 9, 1947 and who died Feb. 18, 1974; and a son, Pat (Beth) in 1991.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kendal at Oberlin.
