ASHLAND Danny Lowell Westbrook, 59, of Ashland, died Friday afternoon in Clinton, Iowa due to an acute heart attack.
He was born March 25, 1947 in Willard. He was a 1965 graduate of South Central High School in Greenwich. He attended Crown Bible College in St. Paul, Minn. He received his B.S.B.A. from Ashland University and he also had attended Ashland Seminary for two years.
During the past 30 years, he served as a youth pastor and assistant pastor of the New London Alliance Church. He was an assistant pastor of Rainbow Valley Chapel in Plymouth and the adult Sunday school teacher while working second shift at White Westinghouse in Mansfield. He was song leader, soloist, elder and pulpit supply pastor for the Ashland King Road Alliance Church. He was pastor of the Cambridge Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Cambridge.
He had worked for Devry Technical College as a recruiter. He also had taught adult Sunday school in Bradenton, Fla. He was president of the Alliance Men in Blairsburg, Iowa Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and Adult Sunday School teacher while working second shift at the Frigidaire Corp. in Webster City, Iowa.
He had been the pulpit supply pastor and adult Sunday school teacher of the Sunnybrook Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Venice, Fla., while he and his son, Josh, started a pressure washing business in Sarasota, Fla. He had worked for Warrington Enterprises, "Cedar Cove" Manufactured Homes/ Maintenance/ Truck Driver and most recently attended Grace Brethren Church in Ashland.
He was well known for his fishing on Lake Erie, scuba diving and boating in the gulf off of Florida. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, singing and loved to travel the United States and Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Jan L. (Amburgy) Westbrook, whom he married Oct. 21, 1968; a son, Josh Westbrook of Ashland; father, Lowell Westbrook of San Marcos, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Roy Farmer of San Marcos, Texas and Lana and Carl Hacker of Greenwich; brothers-in-law, Tim (Cindy) Amburgy of New London and Arnold Jr. (Sarah) Amburgy of Ashland; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Amburgy (Randy) Ingram of North Fairfield, Margie Amburgy (Marty) Mutnansky of New London, Patricia Amburgy (Monte) Marsh of New London, Alecia Amburgy (Danny) Bailey of New London; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor M. (Rinehart) Westbrook in 1991; nephews, Terry Hacker in 1996 and Brad Stanfield in 2006; a sister-in-law, Diane Amburgy Lykins; brothers-in-law, Clarence E. Amburgy and Donald D. Amburgy.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at New London Alliance Church, 4625 Ohio 162, New London, Ohio 44851 where a tribute to his life will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday. The Rev. Doug Lang and Tyler Amburgy will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
