 Andres I. Vargas, Jr., MD, FACS, 81, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in the Cleveland Clinic.

He was born July 15, 1932 in Negros Occidental, Philippines to the late Andres V. Vargas, Sr. and Paterna I. Vargas. After graduating from the University of Santo Tomas College Of Medicine in Manila, Philippines in 1957, he completed his internship at St. Michael Hospital, Milwaukee and was a general surgery resident at Church Home Hospital, Baltimore and Suburban Hospital, Bethesda. He finished his residency in Urology at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore and at French Hospital/Polyclinic Health Center, New York City.

He was certified by the American Board of Urology and practiced for more than 30 years in Norwalk on the medical staff of Fisher-Titus Medical Center before retiring in 2004. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Association, Huron County Medical Society and the American Urological Association.

Dr. Vargas enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dr. Pura Garin-Vargas of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his children, Andrew R. and Cheryl Huang Vargas of Fremont, California, Dr. Albert V. and Karen Vargas of Sandusky, Ohio, and Arthur T. Vargas of St. Charles, Illinois, and by his grandchildren, Aaron, Alyssa, Albert, Benjamin, Christopher, Natalie, Ethan, and Austin. Dr. Vargas is also survived by his sister, Lilia Octavio of Quezon City, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Sydney Vargas, by his sister Nelly and by his brother Eddie.

Friends may call on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio. Father Eric Mueller will officiate. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
